The Micro Conversion Mindset
How to design landing pages that don’t sell, but guide
Hi there,
Let’s be honest: most people don’t land on your site and immediately make a purchase —unless they’re me and have no self-control when it comes to workout products.
Instead of optimizing only for immediate purchases, we should pay more attention to micro conversions.
These are the small signals that say, “Hey, I might be interested in you”—think of them as the business equivalent to sliding into someone’s DMs.
Now, these aren’t just your classic, take-a-quiz-or-click-on-a-tab micro conversions, but more creative ones, like:
Dynamic social proof like real-time reviews or Instagram feeds
Augmented reality (AR) to show size or fit
Video Q&A tools that guide, not overwhelm
But how do you identify and use them? That’s what I’ve covered in my latest article for Convert.
It starts with identifying the right ones
This is where I see most brands go wrong. Sure, more scrolling can look good on paper, but unless it’s a blog, it might just mean people can’t find what they’re looking for.
It’s important to identify the micro conversions that actually matter:
Watch and listen: Dive into heatmaps, session recordings, and analytics
Track patterns: Segment purchasers vs. non-purchasers in GA4 or similar
Correlate, don’t assume: Just because purchasers open a blog post doesn’t mean that caused the purchase
From there, you can start using them.
Recommendation
Convert, an incredible testing platform for Shopify, sponsors this week’s newsletter. If you’ve got the traffic to run A/B tests, they’re an excellent platform to use.
Ryan Levander explored different types of consideration goals in his recent article for Convert, “What ‘Sale’ Are You Optimizing For?”. He provides more detailed instructions on setting up these micro conversions in GA4 using Google Tag Manager. Definitely worth checking out.
Not everyone is ready to buy right away, and that’s okay. Design landing pages that speak to both types of visitors: the eager and the curious.
Till next week,
Daphne
