Why we're organising a diversity-based summit

Hi there,
Diversity & quality go hand-in-hand.
But you need to prioritise it from the beginning.
I’ve attended countless growth conferences. And as insightful as they’ve been, the lack of diversity has always been pretty clear.
And this is a problem. Not just because I support equal opportunities, but also because diversity is vital to the functioning of a growth team (or any team, for that matter!)
Diversity means a variety of opinions, backgrounds and perspectives, which creates a culture of questioning our assumptions, which lends itself to experimentation - where questioning assumptions is key to any kind of data-driven change.
Plus, it forces us to question our own unconscious biases.
That’s exactly why my friends Trina Moitra, Lucia Van Den Brink and I are hosting…
The Convert.com X Women in Experimentation Annual Summit!

The lineup is not diverse by chance but by creating an environment that made it happen.
We contacted individuals around the world to encourage them to apply or share the conference, there was no special treatment for experienced speakers or 'big names'.
Three judges (Kelly (Anne) Wortham, Rosie Hoggmascall & Trina Moitra / Carmen A.) reviewed speakers individually on four factors without looking at their personal details (full transparency: they did see a video per speaker).
They scored them on four factors:
A. Originality (1 = Exact topic was discussed in several conferences, 10 = Either a completely fresh topic or a very unique take on an existing topic/debate)
B. Passion in pitch (1 = Applying just for the exposure/rewards, 10= Well thought out game plan to broaden the understanding of the subject matter in the experiment)
C. Actionable takeaways (1 = Blue sky thinking, 10 = framework audience can apply in their business right away)
D. Storytelling in pitch (1 = No cohesive structure to the pitch, 10 = Solid opening, body, closeI brought together the three scores and comments into one document to get the averages.
The top five scored got a guaranteed spot
Then we reviewed scores (did someone get a very low score that skewed them, understand that judge's perspective), topics (there were a lot of talks about experimentation culture, and we wanted to represent a variety of topics) and slot types (we had shorter slots for new speakers to help them break out) to choose the final five speakers
We wanted to ensure that we had 7/10 speakers who identify as women (we argue for at least 30% female speakers at all conferences, so we wanted the same for male speakers at our conference).
I am so excited for our experimentation and growth-focused sessions, and can’t wait to learn from our amazing speakers.

See you there,
Daphne.
